Extruders in One!!
Nakata Engineering Develops the Quintuplex
In keeping with its position as a technology leader and supplier
of multiplex cold feed extruders, Nakata Engineering has developed
its first extruder which combines five separate cold feed extruders
into one unit.
Believed to be one of the world's first Quintuplex extruders, this
technology enables tire designers to develop products which have
optimized fuel efficiency while retaining traction and durability
characteristics.
The use of silica-based compounds to achieve this break through
has led to other challenges due to the poor electro-conductivity
of silica-based compounds compared to the traditional carbon black. The introduction
of a fifth component into the tread extrudate, enables a thin channel
of carbon black based compound, to provide an electro-conductive
mechanism which avoids electro-static build up in the performing
tire.
Technical Director of Nakata Engineering, Hiroshi Ohara, stated:
"This new technology gives tire designers much more flexibility
to make better use of materials which focus on the important issue
of improving fuel consumption in the vehicle industry. We are proud
